Ah! The wonder of wedge heeled sandals. I became a true convert several years ago upon finding a marvelous bright orange pair (with flowers no less!) in the clearance rack at DSW. Not only did they become my most complimented shoes, but I discovered that I could wear them stylishly through the heat and humidity of a DC summer and run fast enough in them to catch the bus. Those were wonder shoes all right!
Wedge heeled sandals are super abundant this season, predominantly in the neutral shades that all shoes seem to be offered in recent seasons. I’m not sure why this is as summer seems to be the right time to let loose with a little color . . . Maybe that role is being played by the clothing paired with said neutral shoes?
Also on offer this season are suede sandals. Again, I’m not sure why this is, as suede doesn’t really seem to cooperate with heat and humidity, but all my favorite brands are following suit so what’s a girl to do?
I’ve spent a fair amount of time researching summer footwear; read: wearing uncomfortable shoes that may have been OK in the air-conditioned coolness of the shop, but are definitely not cutting the mustard walking more than a few blocks in July. And through some misguided footwear choices in my youth, I now require further capabilities of my summer footwear that have restricted my options even more. Which means you can be certain that any shoes I suggest are likely to be able to manage your summer situation with grace and flair.
So, without further ado, here are my top picks for stylish wedge sandals that:
1. You can wear to nearly any office in the summer
2. Will pair beautifully with summer dresses, skirts and pants
3. Have enough structure and support to accommodate sweaty feet without sliding around
4. Provide breathability
5. Are highly rated by Zappos customers
6. Have a sturdy wedge heel that will permit not just walking, but running. Yes, running!
And for something a little more elegant, for those of you who don’t actually have a need to sprint down the street that is, I quite like these two pairs. Beautiful shoes that just ooze confidence and success. And an unflustered coolness that can sometimes be hard to pull off in the summer.
Now back to getting my feet prepared for wearing said summer wedges. So far this year I’m experiencing ‘breaking in’ difficulties . . .
